Mass Airflow Sensor Service Video
A bad mass airflow sensor can make your engine feel off, even when the car still runs. This sensor sits in the air intake and measures how much air enters the engine, so the computer can match it with the right amount of fuel.
A failing MAF sensor sends the wrong airflow data to the engine computer, which can cause rough idle, weak power, poor fuel mileage, hesitation, or a check engine light. It may also set lean or rich fuel mixture codes during a scan.
Springfield drivers deal with changing Ohio weather, road dust, pollen, and short trips around town. Dusty drives near farm roads outside Urbana or Mechanicsburg can add debris to the intake system, especially if the air filter is dirty or loose.
At Zima Automotive, we do not replace sensors based on a code alone. We test MAF sensor readings, inspect the air filter and intake boot, and check for vacuum leaks before we recommend cleaning or replacement. That helps avoid wasted money and wrong parts.
This matters for daily drivers, work trucks, family SUVs, and European vehicles that depend on precise fuel control. A small sensor problem can feel like a bigger engine issue on I-70, US-40, or Route 68.
